Appreciated Assets
Despite all of the volatility in the financial markets during the past several years, when you pray about your giving to SCB, consider how the donation of publicly traded stock can further the work.
Stocks, bonds and mutual funds may be donated to Somebody Cares Baltimore. You can receive tax credit for the full value of the asset and avoid paying capital gains tax. First, consult with your accountant or tax advisor. Remember, the shares must be transferred directly to the SCB or you’ll incur a tax liability. A simple call to your broker will complete the transaction.
Due to confidentiality issues, our brokers are not able to tell us who has made a donation of a particular stock. It is important for you to let us know when you give. For information and the necessary forms to complete, or to ask questions, please contact our Board Member Tom Bonvissuto, tbonvissuto@mtbia.com or phone: 410 458-6098.
Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT)
A convenient option for monthly giving. SCB can debit your checking account monthly and no checks or postage are needed. Please contact us for the simple form to complete. (Can we attach the form?)
Gifts In Kind
Another way to support the SCB is through gifts of tangible personal property. When a gift relates to the “charitable purpose” of the SCB, you may be eligible for a deduction equal to the full fair market value of the item. These gifts may be items that can be distributed to the youth, seniors and homeless community that are served regularly throughout the year. These items also may include food, backpacks, blankets hats & gloves or even vehicles. Please contact our office if you have or know of items that can be distributed.
How Will Donations Be Used?
Somebody Cares Baltimore works diligently not only to get as much out of every dollar donated but to multiply those dollars through hard work, matching grants, and Gifts In Kind. All donations are used to bring various groups together, provide quality experiences for our volunteers and most of all make sure that each and every individual we serve gets the maximum benefit.
Examples of the ways your donation makes a difference includes:
$10 provides a Bag Of Hope, which is a care package comprised of hygiene products and information where homeless teens and adults can get help year round.
$50 offers a BPD Officer and their spouse to an evening of appreciation and uplift for their marriage.
$100 can provide resources for pastors and community leaders through one of the numerous training and development projects offered through out the year.
$250 sponsors a student to attend a Chain Reaction missions week to deepen their walk by serving multiple communities.
$500 can provide a music and arts summer camp for 10 children in East Baltimore giving them hope while experiencing the joy and educational uplift that comes from being a part of this learning community.
$1000 Sponsor the Day Of Hope where more than 3,000 people can freely receive groceries, education tools for children, job fairs, housing counseling and be exposed to 20 or more community service providers for long term care and assistance.
